MD Medical Group, which operates the Mother and Child chain of clinics, a leading private healthcare provider specializing in women’s and children’s health in Russia (“MD Medical Group” or the “Group”), announces the completion of construction of a 182-bed hospital in the town of Lapino in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region. The Group’s total investment in the construction and equipping of the new hospital amounted to approximately USD 150 million, which the Group believes is the largest privately-backed investment in healthcare ever to be made in Russia.

The Lapino Clinical Hospital will be MD Medical Group’s ninth healthcare centre and the Group’s largest to date. The hospital totals 42,000 square meters and will offer obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, diagnostics, trauma and rehabilitation. The Lapino Clinical Hospital will welcome its first patients before the end of 2012.

Today MD Medical Group includes eight modern healthcare centres in Moscow and other key regions. In addition, a further three Mother and Child clinics are operated on a franchise basis in Kyiv and Irkutsk. The Group is actively developing its chain.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors Mark Kurtser said: “The opening of the hospital in Lapino marks the start of a new phase in the development of our company. We are not only launching our largest hospital to date but we are also expanding our spectrum of services to encompass trauma and rehabilitation alongside our core offerings in women’s health, children’s health and assisted reproduction. The addition of these new services is a natural evolution of our strategy to build a more broadly based Group offering general healthcare to all clients.”

CEO of MD Medical Group, Elena Mladova, added: “Now is the right time to be opening a major new healthcare centre. We have long seen substantial demand for the services of our Perinatal Medical Centre – demand which we do not always have the capacity to satisfy – and we are confident that there will be high demand for these services in Lapino.”
